Issue comments: The Kaskanampo lodge delegation to the 1986 National OA
Conference in Michigan consulted with some leaders of the
conference who were knowledgeable about flap design. The
delegation found that the current flap (S10 "Gold FDL")
did not properly identify the lodge totem because it was
unclear if the totem was the Indian, the canoe, or the
shell. It was also not clear that the item the indian was
holding was indeed a mussel shell. When the delegates
returned from the conference they recommended to the OAEC
that the lodge flap be changed. Five competing designs
were submitted to the lodge and the OAEC selected the flap
shown above. The mouth of the mussel shell was intended
to be pink, and it was later changed on the S13.
This design is one of the few underwater scenes produced
on OA patches.
